New England Lake House

Exeter, Rhode Island
2003

To design this Rhode Island residence, BWA was selected after a competition process with four other firms. The property is situated on a 400 acre-plot, between a patch of forest, and the scenic James Pond, and the modern, single-story, fan-shaped house was designed with this landscape in mind. The shaded stone entry stands in complete contrast to the rear of the house, which is made largely of red cedar and glass, and curves along the shoreline, emphasizing the view and maximizing the natural light. The house is built from natural and locally-sourced materials, and is heated entirely through geothermal wells on-site.
