River House
Coxsackie, New York
2008-2012
BWA was asked to design a modern residence on a 90-acre farm in upstate New York, one that would feel connected to the landscape, and reflect the latest in green technology.
The two materials employed are sleek, but subtle: a natural wood skin for the interior, and a dark cement board for the exterior, with various points of visible contrast. The house is adjacent to the Hudson River, a spectacular view of which greets the visitor upon entering the house. Geothermal wells around the site, and photovoltaic solar panels on the roof ensure a clean and efficient energy flow.
